The General Authority for Communications and Informatics Celebrates International Girls in ICT Day
Tripoli, April 24, 2025
In celebration of International Girls in ICT Day, the General Authority for Communications and Informatics (GACI) hosted a high-level event at its headquarters in Tripoli, under the inspiring theme: “Women in ICT for Inclusive Digital Transformation.”
The event brought together a vibrant cohort of female professionals from GACI and the National Authority for Information Security and Safety, reflecting a strong commitment to empowering women across Libya’s digital landscape. The program featured a dynamic blend of expert panel discussions, hands-on technical workshops, and interactive dialogues that spotlighted the essential contributions of women to innovation, digital policy, and cybersecurity.
Leading the conversations were accomplished female experts from GACI who delivered keynote sessions tackling pressing digital challenges and emerging opportunities for women in ICT. Topics ranged from the evolving role of women in cybersecurity and the societal influence of social media, to practical strategies for combating cyber threats such as phishing, online extortion, and digital fraud.
A cornerstone of the event was a series of specialized workshops curated by the National Authority for Information Security and Safety. These sessions provided attendees with practical tools and knowledge to secure digital environments and cultivate female leadership in the tech sector.
The program also featured presentations on prominent international initiatives—including NoW4 in ITU, WTDC-25, and other ITU-backed programs—delivered by GACI’s female professionals with the virtual engagement of participants from the Eastern, Southern, and Central regions of the country.
One of the day’s most impactful segments was an open panel titled “Challenges and Opportunities for Girls and Women in the ICT Sector,” where participants explored structural barriers and shared innovative approaches to enhance women’s participation in the field of information and communications technology.
Throughout the event, speakers and attendees alike commended GACI’s proactive leadership in fostering gender diversity and building inclusive digital capacities. They also underscored the pivotal role of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in driving global gender equity and promoting the inclusion of women in technology and innovation.
The celebration concluded with a collective call to action for deeper collaboration among government bodies, the private sector, academic institutions, civil society, and international organizations—working together to create an equitable, secure, and inclusive digital future where women are both innovators and decision-makers.
